How do I know what speakers will be best to buy with a stereo system 4 my home?
I do not want a system for my TV, I would like to be able to sit and listen to music and read. There seems to be a different set of speakers recommended by everyone I ask... Is it the watts, the size, or is it the unit they are connected too?
There are a lot of good manufacturers, and it depends on your listening needs and habits. Stay away from the low-end junk they sell at places like Rex and circuit city. You get what you pay for, to a point. At some point, there are diminishing returns for extra investment. At what level? For me, I'd say you should be able to buy a decent pair (a pair is all you need for straight-up music listening) between 300-600 bucks. I'm not crazy about Bose. I think they're WAY overpriced.
For the money, I like Wharfedales, JBL's, Klipsch, Polk, Boston Acoustics, and Infinities. Stay away from Pioneer, Kenwood, Yamaha, Sony, etc.
